Chidinma Lawanson is a seasoned expert in financial services and international development, with over 25 years of experience in commercial banking and development finance. She has demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing financial inclusion and addressing youth unemployment across Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa.
As the inaugural Country Director for Nigeria at the Mastercard Foundation (2020-2023), Chidinma spearheaded initiatives aimed at unlocking entrepreneurial and employment opportunities for over one million young people, especially women, in the agricultural, creative, and digital sectors. Her leadership significantly contributed to embedding financial inclusion across the foundation's programs, while fostering strategic relationships with public and private sector stakeholders.
Chidinma’s extensive experience includes her tenure as CEO of Enhancing Financial Innovation and Access (EFInA), where she drove initiatives focused on MSME banking, agri-finance, and financial products for low-income groups. Additionally, she has consulted for prominent institutions such as the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the African Development Bank (AfDB), and Oxfam, bringing her expertise to various markets across Africa.
Previously, Chidinma spent two decades with Diamond Bank Plc Nigeria, where she held several leadership roles, including strategic planning, business development, and capacity building. In recognition of her contributions, she was selected as a Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow in 2008 under the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship Program.
A recognized thought leader, Chidinma has spoken at numerous global forums and appeared on CNBC Africa, sharing insights on MSMEs and financial inclusion. She currently serves on the advisory boards of several institutions and consults for international development organizations, focusing on MSMEs, agriculture, and financial inclusion.
Chidinma holds a Graduate Diploma in Entrepreneurial Management from Boston University and is happily married with three children.
