Engr. (Dr.) Abubakar Gambo Umar is a distinguished chemical engineer with over 25 years of experience spanning engineering, academia, and public service. He earned his degree in Chemical Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and furthered his education with a Master’s in International Affairs and Diplomacy from the same institution, alongside a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from the Nigerian Defence Academy. In recognition of his contributions, Wesley University, Ondo, awarded him an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration. He is a COREN-certified engineer and a key figure in the engineering community.

Since 2020, Engr. Umar has served as the Director-General and CEO of the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, driving initiatives for socio-economic development and education in Northern Nigeria. His leadership experience includes positions such as Chairman of the Governing Board of the Nigerian Film Corporation (2018-2021) and Special Assistant to the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development (2015-2018). Additionally, he played a critical role in the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), serving as Deputy Secretary-General and acting Secretary-General.

Engr. Umar is the founder and Managing Partner/CEO of Zaitun Engineering and General Services Ltd, a firm specializing in environmental consultancy, where he has overseen numerous national environmental projects. He is an active member of professional organizations, including the Nigerian Society of Engineers and the Nigerian Environmental Society, and holds the traditional title of Santurakin Gassol in Taraba State. Engr. Umar is also a devoted community leader and family man.
